Privacy

This site is an independent, nonpartisan guide. It is not run by or affiliated with the St. Louis County Board of Elections or the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners. It helps you find your precinct, polling places and sample ballot. It has no accounts, no analytics and no server of its own: your browser talks straight to the public services below. Here is what each one gets, and what this site never keeps.

What this site never does

  • It never saves your address or your location: they are not put in the page address (URL), in browser storage, in cookies or in your browser's cache. Your browser history and cache do keep the precinct pages you open, like /p/CC007.
  • It has no analytics, ads or tracking, and sets no cookies.
  • A shared link holds only your precinct code, like /p/CC007, never your address.

What is sent where

Each service below sees your IP address, as any website you visit does, and keeps its own logs under its own policy.

Address search

What you type in the address box goes first to St. Louis County's address points (maps.stlouisco.com), or to the county's copy of them on Esri's ArcGIS Online (services2.arcgis.com) when the first cannot be reached. The county gets it in the body of the request, not in its web address. When the county has no match, it also goes to the City of St. Louis's address search (maps6.stlouis-mo.gov), in the body of the request, to find it in St. Louis City. It also goes to Photon by komoot (photon.komoot.io) when neither has a match or the county cannot be reached; Photon gets it as part of the request's web address. When you search for an address and it is found outside St. Louis City, its house number and street (not the town, ZIP code or unit) also go to the City's address search, in the body of the request, to check that the City does not have the same address. The City is skipped when you typed a ZIP code that is entirely outside the City, or picked a suggestion with one, or when the address was found in another county. Suggestions are looked up as you type, so the county, Photon and, once a house number and a street name are typed, the City get each part of the address as you type it. Your browser does not keep any of these requests or their answers in its cache.

Finding your precinct

The point where your address was found, or your device's location if you choose Use my location, goes to St. Louis County's election maps on Esri's ArcGIS Online (services6.arcgis.com), in the body of the request, not in its web address. When it is in or near the City of St. Louis, it goes the same way to the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners' election maps (services6.arcgis.com), also on Esri's ArcGIS Online. An address the address search places in the City goes there first, and to the county's maps too only if the City has no precinct for it or cannot be reached. When the address you type has several entries in the county's address points, like the units of an apartment building, the points of all of them go to the county's election maps first, the same way, to check that they are in one precinct. Your browser does not keep these requests or their answers in its cache. Opening a shared link sends only the precinct code.

Use my location

Your browser asks for your permission before it shares your location with this site, unless you allowed it before. The site uses it only to find your precinct, mark it on the map and list the nearest places to vote. On the early voting wait times page, it is used only on your device, to sort the sites by distance: it is not sent anywhere.

The map

The map's streets and labels come from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). Those requests show which area is on screen: your precinct and the polling places near it, or, on the early voting wait times page, the early voting sites.

Early voting wait times

The early voting wait times page, and the early voting part of a precinct's results while early voting is running, ask the line count layers of the St. Louis County Board of Elections (services6.arcgis.com) and the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners (services6.arcgis.com), both on Esri's ArcGIS Online, for the current counts every 30 seconds while they are open on your screen. These requests carry nothing about you: no address, location or precinct.

This website

Render, which hosts this site, sees the address of each page your browser loads from it, like /p/CC007, as any web host does.

Links to other sites, like the county's, take you to those sites. They are not told which page of this site you came from.
